Honeymoon Tuscany

With tender feelings we look at the 28 meters high medieval tower. A romantic castle in Tuscany as honeymoon destination we have seen before, but this special lodging is seriously breathtaking for a honeymoon in Tuscany. We sit down by the pool, together with the owners Luca and Emilia. And we look up at the impressive tower, up high in the blue sky.

This medieval tower is without a doubt one of the most romantic places we have ever seen. We walk through the olive grove, admire the panorama and visit the vegetable garden. We sit for a second under the romantic grape pergola with dining table and barbecue. Then we continue our walk towards the entrance of the tower.

Luckily we are not afraid of heights, because via an external staircase we arrive at the main entrance. A narrow stone staircase takes us to the kitchen with dining table, and a recently renovated, modern bathroom. On the third floor we find a lovely living room with fireplace. On the fourth floor we find romantic bedroom with modern bathroom and the best view. The original purpose of the big windows was to catch sight of the enemy’s armies during the war.  The ground floor and basement in this time were used as a shelter for cannons and today are only used as history story material. The last floor is different from all other floors. We walk up the spiral staircase and once up on the roof we cannot believe it. We are standing on an immense roof terrace with a 360 degree view over the rolling hills. Super romantic to watch the sunset on your honeymoon in Italy. Emilia points eastwards, where we can see the fort of Volterra and in the background San Gimignano. She tells about how Montecatini and his tower, once belonged to the Florentines. Today Montecatini belongs to the region of Pisa. When we turn around to the opposite site we see the Tuscan coast with the islands Elba, Capraia and Corsica in the distance. It seems like a fairy tale tu us. Enough places to go on day trips, even though we don’t even want to leave this terrace at the moment…

Important VIP note

Luca and Emilia live in a cute house next to the tower and they are always at their guests disposal. At the same time they respect the privacy of the guests for a 100%. Luca is responsible for the maintenance of the swimming pool and the garden. Also the vegetable garden is always in perfect condition, the guest can pick as often and as many fruits and vegetables as they like.

Layout tower

  • Dimension: 160 m2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1

The quadrangular tower dates back to the 11th (!) century and has been completely renovated by the masters of Italian architecture and design. The uncle of Luca named Emilio Jesi bought the tower end sixties and completely redecorated it with architect Franco Albini. Because of the thick walls it is nice and cool inside and air conditioning is unnecessary. Albini’s touch is clearly recognizable: a rustic style, combined with some of the best Italian design pieces.

Magic experience

Luca is a magic person, and he curated a magic experience for us in Tuscany. The tower is as impressive from the neighbouring valley as it is up close, and even more impressive once inside. Stunning and stylish decor, spectacular views, 5ft thick ancient walls, fresh tomatoes and pressed olive oil from the grounds, and wonderful Montecatini - a rare undiscovered gem in Tuscany - all made for a fantastic holiday. Worth a trip to Italy just to stay here.

What a tower!

A beautiful place to stay in Tuscany! We can\'t recommend this place enough. Once in a lifetime experience to stay in such a tower. Beautifully decorated. The best part was the enchanting town and area. The fresh eggs from the chickens was a special treat. You won\'t be disappointed!
