Villa between Florence and the Tuscan coast
I imagine Princess Margaret of Savoy in the 19th century waking up in a room like this. I feel like a true princess when I open my eyes and stare at the 19th century ceiling paintings.
The terracotta floor feels nice and cool as I walk to the window to open the shutters and to greet the singing birds.
I look into the distance, being aware that the Tuscan coast, Pisa, Lucca and Florence are surrounding me. Last night the owner of the villa told us that it is the ‘Monte Serra’ right in front of the villa garden. I remember him saying that it is just over 500 meters and can therefore be called ‘mountain.’
Clean fresh air fill my lungs as I deeply inhale the morning air and enjoy the overwhelming view of the Tuscan landscape.
The grape pergola, fig and plum trees are full of natural sweets at this time of year. Unexpectedly a big fig falls of the three into the grass. In no time I find myself in the garden to prevent the birds of eating ‘my candy’ and I sweep myself in the hammock under the Tuscan sun.
The owner Gioele gave us a quick tour last night at arrival. Our flight arrived quite late, but luckily it is only half an hour from Pisa airport. Therefore, as soon as the others woke up and had their breakfast, Gioele makes his return for a full villa tour this time.
As we just personally experienced the renovated bedrooms, with each a brand new ensuite bathroom, we compliment him with the perfect balance between the classic style with a modern-rural look. The palatial hall with high pillars and piano room are perfect as event venue.
The first floor of the villa provides sleeping space for 8 people, plus the possibility of adding 2 extra besd to scale up the maximum capacity to 10 people. If we involve the garden for an anniversary party or wedding celebration, the number of people can be increased tenfold during the day. Gioele tells us about unforgettable wedding receptions and family riunions that have been organized in his ‘Palazzo’ over the years. For larger group holidays, he runs a nice little holiday park with 8 apartments and a restaurant at 20 kilometres from the villa.
Passing through the amazing kitchen with marble countertop, copper taps and authentic 19th century fireplace, we arrive at the panorama terrace, as we open the patio doors. We also get a tour in the old wine cellar, where it appears as if time has stood still and the large wooden wine barrels still have the smell of a red ‘Chianti Colline Pisane.’
